I'm always looking for ways to infuse Jesus into the life of my children.
But.
Confession Time: I *heart* Christmas. Even the commercial parts.

And often find myself caught up in all the hype and fun of gifting during the holidays. I was in the basement the other day. Knee deep in gifts and wrapping paper. When the (Holy Spirit...is that you?) thought crossed my mind that I haven't taken a time out to remind them (and me!) about the Real Reason for the Season.
Jesus.
Savior.
Redeemer.
Without You there would be no Christmas!
Of course we have a manger. Both decorative and the to be played with kind. I have Nativity books under the tree. But I haven't made a point to daily shift the focus to the Savior. So, I did what every good mom does. I went Google hunting for ideas. And found this beautiful poem which happens to go together nicely with one of our family's favorite holiday treats! I'll be intentionally carving out some time today for us to read the poem 2gether. Which will also serve as a great excuse to enjoy a minty fresh snack 2gether too!

Candy Cane Story
Jesus Gentle Shepherd,
this cane of red and white
proclaims the sweet love story
born on Christmas night
This cane, you see, when turned around
begins your name of Love
and now becomes a symbol
of peace proclaimed above
The lively peppermint flavor
is the regal gift of spice
The white is your purity
and the red your sacrifice
And so this cane reminds us
of just how much you care
and like your Christmas Gift to us
it's meant for all to share
this cane of red and white
proclaims the sweet love story
born on Christmas night
This cane, you see, when turned around
begins your name of Love
and now becomes a symbol
of peace proclaimed above
The lively peppermint flavor
is the regal gift of spice
The white is your purity
and the red your sacrifice
And so this cane reminds us
of just how much you care
and like your Christmas Gift to us
it's meant for all to share
